In the new cabinet, along with PM Modi, 30 other leaders have taken oath of office and secrecy as cabinet ministers. Apart from this, 5 leaders have taken oath as Ministers of State with independent charge and 36 as Ministers of State. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath to all the ministers in a grand ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Sunday, June 9. Heads of state of many countries from around the world were also present in the ceremony.
73-year-old Narendra Modi is the second leader to take oath as Prime Minister for the third consecutive time. Before him, the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had held this post three times in a row. PM Modi has reached the Lok Sabha by winning the election from Varanasi seat of UP for the third consecutive time. In the elections held in seven phases between April 19 and June 1 for 543 Lok Sabha seats, BJP won 240 seats. NDA allies TDP got 16, JDU 12, Shiv Sena 7, LJP Ram Vilas 5, Janata Dal (Secular), Rashtriya Lok Dal, Jan Sena Party got 2 seats each. Apart from this, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Apna Dal (Sonelal), All Jharkhand Student Union (AJSU), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), UPPL and Assam Gana Parishad have won one seat each. In this way, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has got 293 seats out of 543 in the Lok Sabha, which is 21 more than the majority figure of 272. After crossing the majority figure, the leader chosen by the NDA, Narendra Modi, has formed the government for the third consecutive time. While the Congress party has won 99 seats on its own. The number of seats of the Congress party-led India Alliance is 234. A total of 17 seats have been won by others. These include 7 independents. With the swearing in of Prime Minister Modi on Sunday, 9 June, a new government has been formed in the country.
