What is PM-Kisan scheme?
PM Kisan Yojana is a central sector scheme launched by the Prime Minister in February 2019 to meet the financial needs of land-holding farmers. Under this, every year an amount of Rs 6,000 is given in three installments to crores of farmers of the country so that they can meet their agricultural needs like seeds, fertilizers, agricultural equipment etc. The 17th installment was released in June this year.
Under the PM-Kisan scheme, installments are transferred to the bank accounts of farmers’ families across the country through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. PM-Kisan Yojana is one of the largest DBT schemes in the world. According to the government, a farmer-centric digital infrastructure has ensured that the benefits of the scheme reach all farmers across the country without the involvement of any middlemen. Maintaining complete transparency in registering and verifying beneficiaries, the Government of India has so far distributed over Rs 3.24 lakh crore to over 11 crore farmers in 17 installments.
