National Farmers Day, 23rd December Kisan Diwas,Today is National Farmers Day. Today on 23rd December the country is celebrating Farmers Day. Farmers Day is celebrated every year on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the fifth Prime Minister of India, popularly known as the leader of farmers. On this special occasion, know about 5 government schemes that empower the farmers of the country.
PM Kisan: PM Kisan Samman Nidhi
PM-KISAN scheme, launched on 24 February 2019, aims to meet the financial needs of landholding farmers across the country. Under this scheme, Rs 6,000 is transferred directly into the bank accounts of farmers in three equal, quad-monthly installments through the Direct Benefit Transfer technology. Since its inception, the Government of India has distributed an amount of more than Rs 3.46 lakh crore in 18 installments, benefiting more than 11 crore farmers.

PMFBY: PM Crop Insurance Scheme
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PM Fasal Bima Yojana), launched in 2016, aims to provide affordable crop insurance to farmers, covering the risk of natural adversities from pre-sowing to post-harvest stages, thereby providing quick and Adequate compensation is ensured. Since its inception, the scheme has insured 68.85 crore farmer applications and disbursed claims worth Rs 1,65,966 crore.
PM-KMY: PM Kisan Maandhan Yojana
Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana i.e. PM-KMY (PM Kisan Maandhan Yojana), launched on 12 September 2019, provides security to vulnerable farmer families by offering monthly pension. Farmers in the age group of 18 to 40 years make a monthly contribution in this scheme, for which the government gives an equal amount. Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) manages the pension fund. As of November 25, 2024, more than 24.66 lakh farmers have enrolled in the scheme, which provides financial security during their old age.

MISS: Modified Interest Subvention Scheme
Modified Interest Subvention Scheme (MISS) provides concessional short-term agricultural loans with 7% interest rate on loans up to Rs 3.00 lakh, along with an additional 3% subsidy for timely repayment. Gives, leaving the effective rate at 4%. Since 2014-15, institutional credit flows to agriculture have almost tripled from Rs 8.5 lakh crore to Rs 25.48 lakh crore by 2023-24. Disbursement of soft and concessional crop loans has more than doubled, interest subsidy through KCC has increased by 2.4 times to Rs 14,252 crore in 2023-24.
KCC: Kisan Credit Card
The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, launched in 1998, provides farmers easy access to agricultural inputs and cash for their production needs. In February 2019, the Reserve Bank extended KCC facility to animal husbandry and fisheries for working capital requirements. As of March 31, 2024, there are 7.75 crore active KCC accounts.
