Delhi more than 80000 Senior citizen people to get old age pension:There is good news for the residents of Delhi above 60 years of age. Delhi government has started Old Age Pension Scheme for senior citizens. Under this pension scheme, people of Delhi above 60 years of age are to get financial assistance of Rs 2000 to 2500 every month. Additional benefits will also be given to senior citizens belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and minority communities.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that 80,000 new old age pensions are being started by the AAP government. He claimed that 10,000 applications have been received on the first day of expansion of Old Age Pension. Aam Aadmi Party President Kejriwal said on Monday that stopping the pension of the elderly is a sin.While talking to the media people, he alleged that when he was in jail, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stopped his pension. He said, “After coming out, we not only restarted the stalled pension but also added 80 thousand new beneficiaries. Earlier, 30,000 senior people used to have pension. By increasing this, the government has added 1.25 lakh pension in the last 9 years.Kejriwal said that with the addition of new beneficiaries, the total number of pensioners in Delhi has reached about 5.3 lakh.
In a press conference, he said that the Delhi government is committed to social welfare and said that the decision to give old age pension to more people is being implemented this Sunday after the approval of the cabinet. This Sunday, the Delhi government launched a portal for elderly people to apply for pension.

The AAP chief claimed that now 80 thousand more people in Delhi are eligible for old age pension. He said that Kejriwal claimed that the highest amount of pension is given in Delhi. Under the Old Age Pension Scheme, elderly people between 60 to 69 years in Delhi get Rs 2,000 every month. Whereas elders of 70 years and above get old age pension of Rs 2,500 every month by the Delhi government.
Who can avail the benefits of Old Age Pension Scheme of Delhi Government?
People of Delhi will have to fulfill the below mentioned standards to get the benefit of old age pension.
- Must be 60 years or more.
- Must have lived in Delhi for at least 5 years.
- Must have Aadhar card with local address.
- Annual family income should be less than Rs 1 lakh.
- Must have a single operated bank account.
- The applicant should not be receiving any other pension or financial assistance from the Central or State Governments.
How to apply
Applications can be made through the e-District portal of the Delhi government, which was opened on November 24.This Sunday, the Delhi government launched a portal for elderly people to apply for pension. Old age pension has long been a controversial political issue in Delhi. Earlier this year, the BJP accused the Delhi government of not extending the scheme from 2018 even though it had the potential to add 1 lakh beneficiaries. In August, the AAP government accused the central government of stopping pension contributions for one lakh beneficiaries since March, claiming it was restored only after sustained lobbying.
