Pedro Rocha, recently proclaimed president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and accused in Operation Brodie, fired Albert Luque, sports director, and Rubén Rivera, marketing director, on Monday afternoon, according to reports Reliefand this newspaper has confirmed. For both, the prosecutor requests a year and a half in prison for alleged coercion of international player Jennifer Hermoso. According to the prosecution’s accusation, once the non-consensual kiss of former President Luis Rubiales to Hermoso occurred and “given the personal and professional consequences that could result, the accused [Rubiales]by himself and in connivance with the rest of the accused [Luque y Rivera]”, began to exert constant and repeated acts of pressure directly on the player Jennifer Hermoso and through her family and friends with the aim of publicly justifying and approving the kiss that Luis Rubiales gave her against her will.” Luque and Rivera would have exerted the alleged coercion during the trip to Ibiza in which the players celebrated the title of world champions achieved in Sydney a few days before.
Both leaders had already been removed from their positions, but Rocha did not dare to fire them before so that they would not accuse him of exceeding his duties, which is why the Administrative Court of Sports (TAD) opened a file against him for very serious misconduct. which is still pending to be resolved by filing or a provisional suspension by the Higher Sports Council (CSD) or a definitive one by the sports court itself.
The purge that began on Monday also took out Pedro González Segura, director of the RFEF’s legal services, and José Javier Jiménez, known as Jot, both detained within the framework of the aforementioned Operation Brodie, which investigates irregularities in the federation’s contracts during Rubiales’ mandate and in which alleged crimes of unfair administration, money laundering, corruption in business and belonging to criminal organization. Both González Segura and Jota are involved in the alleged irregular awards to the construction company Gruconsa of the renovation of the La Cartuja stadium and the remodeling of the federative headquarters of the Ciudad del Fútbol of Las Rozas. At Gruconsa, Ángel González Segura, brother of the former federation leader, works as zone delegate. Rocha, who is also investigated in the case, has not applied to those fired the presumption of innocence that he does grant himself.
