‘Passengers’ lives endangered’; Suspension for KSRTC driver

Kottayam: Minister Antony Raju said that the driver of the KSRTC bus was suspended for threatening the lives of the passengers through the floods. Action has been taken against the driver of the KSRTC bus which sank in front of St. Mary’s Church, Poonjar.

“The KSRTC managing director S Jayadeep has been suspended for suspending the driver of a bus that threatened the lives of passengers and caused damage to the bus by driving through a large pond in front of St. Mary’s Church in Poonjar following heavy rains.” Minister Antony Raju said in a Facebook post.

The bus sank in front of St. Mary’s Church in Poonjar due to the negligence of the KSRTC driver. The bus was on its way to Erattupetta when it tried to cross a large body of water in front of the church. Someone here had high water.

The bus was carrying about 30 passengers, including children and the elderly. Due to the timely intervention of the locals, a major accident was averted. The bus was traveling from Pala to Erattupetta when it met with a major flood in Poonjar
As many as 16 families have been evacuated due to floods in the area. Poonjar KSRTC bus stand was flooded and buses are being relocated.
