George Baldock, 31-year-old defender of the Greek Panathinaikos, was found dead this Wednesday night in the pool of his home in the Glifada neighborhood (Athens). The causes of his death are still unknown, but the latest assessments point to a pathological cause, according to Efe.
The club issued a statement this Thursday to say goodbye to its player. “We are shocked, shocked by the loss of our George. The Panathinaikos family mourns his death,” the text states.
According to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, his wife was trying to contact him by phone from the United Kingdom, where she was. When he received no response, he called the owner of the home in Athens and he was the one who arrived at the house and found Baldock’s body in the pool.
Baldock began his career in the youth ranks of Milton Keyne Dons, in England, and was a footballer for Sheffield United from 2017 until last May, when he headed to Athens to play for Panathinaikos. He was only able to play a few games for the Greek club.
