Palestinian President Abbas met with Israeli delegation, including two ministers

According to the news of the Palestinian official agency WAFA, Abbas received the delegation accompanying Israeli Health Minister Horowitz and Regional Cooperation Minister Frej, who came to the occupied West Bank, at the presidential residence in Ramallah.

During the meeting, Abbas emphasized that Israel should end the occupation and the activities of building Jewish settlements, and that a just and comprehensive peace should be ensured in line with international legitimacy decisions.

Noting that Israel should stop demolishing Palestinians’ homes and deporting them from Jerusalem, Abbas warned of the escalation of tensions and the policy implemented against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.

The Israeli delegation, consisting of Meretz Party members in the coalition government led by Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, confirmed their stance supporting the two-state solution and the end of the occupation, and stated that joint cooperation is needed to build bridges of trust.

The left-wing Meretz Party is among several Israeli parties that support the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and oppose the building of Jewish settlements.

Abbas met with Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz in Ramallah on August 29, and it was announced that the Palestinian-Israeli relations were discussed in the meeting and that “all aspects” of the relations were discussed.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog also conveyed to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on July 12 that he intends to restart dialogue between the two sides.

Peace talks between Israel and Palestine had stalled in April 2014 because Israel refused to “agree with the 1967 borders, the right of return of displaced Palestinians, and the construction of illegal Jewish settlements.”
