The five-year term of the lower house of parliament ends on August 12. In the event of President Alvi not accepting the advice of the Prime Minister, the Assembly will automatically be dissolved within 48 hours of its (advice). Alvi is a former leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. According to the news of The Express Tribune newspaper, Shahbaz visited the headquarters of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, indicating to leave the post of Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister was warmly welcomed by Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir. Meanwhile, according to the news of Dawn newspaper, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Raja Riaz said that he has not yet met or consulted with the Prime Minister regarding the names of the Caretaker Prime Minister. “I am looking forward to meeting tomorrow in which these things will be discussed,” he said, adding that consultations would take place at the right time.
Riaz said that he has completed the consultation process with the allies and about 90 per cent agreement has been reached on the three names for the caretaker prime minister. Political analysts have said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led coalition government may stay in power for two more days and dissolve the parliament on August 11, but it is feared that President Alvi will notify the dissolution of the National Assembly immediately. Can refuse to issue.
This is the reason why the advice to dissolve the National Assembly is being given three days in advance so that even in the event of the President refusing to agree to it, the House is dissolved before the completion of its term. With this, the Election Commission will get 90 days time for the elections. In the event of the National Assembly completing its term, the Election Commission is bound to hold elections within 60 days.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Rana Sanaullah said that there is a possibility of delay in holding general elections. He said in an interview to Geo News on Tuesday that 2023 is not an election year. Sanaullah said that after the census is notified, the delimitation process needs to be completed. “The caretaker government will complete the delimitation process fulfilling this constitutional requirement,” he said.
The minister said that this process will take 120 days. “As soon as this delimitation process is completed, after that if Allah wills, elections will be held,” he said. On the name being considered for the role of Caretaker Prime Minister, Sanaullah said discussions are on and no name has been finalized yet. But the decision has not been taken.
