Pak boat carrying Rs 400 crore worth of illicit drugs off Gujarat coast; 6 arrested

Gandhinagar: A Pakistani fishing boat was seized off the coast of Gujarat with heroin worth Rs 400 crore. The Defense PRO said all six people aboard the boat had been arrested. The fishing boat, named ‘Al Husseini’, was carrying 77 kilograms of heroin. The ANI report quoted defense sources as saying that the boat was seized off the Indian Ocean.

The boat was seized during a joint operation by the Coast Guard and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad. The information was released by the Defense PRO via Twitter. “Al-Husseini, a Pakistani fishing boat, and six others were arrested in a joint operation by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad and the Indian Coast Guard with 77 kilograms of heroin worth about Rs 400 crore.” Defense PRO clarified in a tweet.

Last month, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad seized about 120 kg of heroin. Gujarat DGP Ashish Bhatia said the drugs, valued at about Rs 600 crore, were believed to have arrived by sea. The police had said that the matter was found during the preliminary investigation. Three people were arrested in connection with the incident. According to police, the drugs were smuggled in by boat from Pakistan.

Gujarat is active in smuggling drugs from foreign countries, including Pakistan. A few days back, members of a racket that smuggled drugs, including cocaine, by air from foreign countries were also nabbed from Gujarat. Police arrested four people in the space of a few days.
