Kannur: The Muslim League activists accused in the murder case of CPM leader P Jayarajan and TV Rajesh have been acquitted. The Kannur Additional Sessions Court acquitted 12 persons from Kannur.

The case is that the then CPM Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan and Kalyassery MLA TV Rajesh were attacked at Ariyil near Taliparamba. The incident took place on February 20, 2012. The prosecution claimed that the vehicle in which the CPM leaders were traveling was stopped and an attempt was made to kill them.

Ariyil Shukur, a Muslim League activist, was killed after the incident. The Muslim League alleges that the CPM killed Shukur in the aftermath of the clashes.

Defendant contended that there was no attack on the CPM leaders and that the documents presented in the case were not genuine and that the weapons presented in the case were forged.

On the day of the incident, at 11 am, a vehicle driven by P Jayarajan and TV Rajesh was stopped by Muslim League activists when it reached Ari. The windows of the vehicle were shattered in the collision. Jayarajan reached the Taliparamba station and lodged a complaint. Subsequently, a case was registered against about 100 people. Jayarajan and Rajesh then sought treatment at the Taliparamba Co-operative Hospital. Police allege that Shukur was killed as a result of the clash.
