Over 480 illegal migrants rescued off the coast of Tunisia

Off the coast of the Kerkenna group of islands in southeast Tunisia, 487 illegal migrants have been rescued, including 13 women and 93 children.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Tunisia, 162 of the migrants brought to the port of Sfax are citizens of Egypt, 104 are citizens of Bangladesh, 81 are Syria, 78 are Morocco, 13 are Ethiopia and 49 are other African countries.

All rescued illegal immigrants were transferred to the National Guard of Tunisia.

Tunisia and Libya are the main routes for illegal migrants who want to get to Europe from the African continent.

Every year, thousands of migrants travel from Africa to the Mediterranean to travel to Europe in the hope of a better life. Some of these migrants make it to Europe, while others die at sea.
