One Nation One Election gets approval in Modi Cabinet, bill will be presented in Parliament in a few days
A big update has come out regarding One Nation, One Election. On Thursday, Modi Cabinet has approved One Nation One Election. Now the BJP led NDA government will present this bill in the Parliament within a few days. The government wants to build a consensus on this bill, hence the bill will be sent from Parliament to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for discussion. JPC will discuss this bill with representatives of all political parties.
Let us tell you that a committee was formed for One Nation One Election under the leadership of former President Ramnath Kovind, the report of which was submitted recently. Modi government can present this bill in Parliament next week. The bill aims to hold simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections along with urban body and panchayat elections within 100 days.
It is not going to be so easy for the Center to implement One Nation One Election, because for this it will have to bring at least six bills to amend the Constitution. For this the government is going to need two-thirds majority in the Parliament.
In the Rajya Sabha, the NDA has 112 seats and the opposition has 85 seats, while the government will need 164 votes for a two-thirds majority. Similarly, in the Lok Sabha also, NDA has 292 seats, while the two-thirds figure is 364.
