The deceased farmer was identified as 39-year-old farmer Amarinder Singh. He was a resident of Machrai Kalan village of Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab.
Demonstration of farmers on various borders of Delhi has been going on for more than a month on the demand of withdrawal of three agricultural laws brought by the central government. Meanwhile, on Saturday, there has been a case of another farmer committing suicide on the Singhu border.
With this incident, the number of people committing suicide at various protest sites has increased to four. On Saturday, 39-year-old farmer Amarinder Singh allegedly gave life by consuming poison on the Singhu border.
According to the report of the Indian Express, he was taken to Frank Institute of Medical Sciences, Sonipat, after allegedly consuming poison by Amarinder Singh, where he died during treatment. He was a resident of Machhrai Kalan village of Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab.
Baljit Singh, convenor of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha’s IT Cell, said, “He consumed poison near the main stage. This happened in the evening when the day’s program was about to end. He collapsed in front of other farmers. We immediately took him to the hospital, where he died at 7:20 pm.
The protesting farmers say that Amarinder was involved in the protest going on the Singhu border for the last few days.
Jeet Singh, The village sarpanch, said, “He have about one acre of land in the village, which is not very fertile. For the last two-three years, he started living in Fatehgarh Sahib, while his widowed mother Nachhtar Kaur was living in the village.”
He further said, ‘His income from farming was difficult, so he was working as a conductor in a private bus. I don’t know what he was doing these days.
According to the report, Amrinder is survived by his mother, wife and two teenage kids a boy and a girl. His father was in the army and died in a road accident in the 80s.
Jagmohan Singh, general secretary of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Dakonda) said, ‘We are shocked by this incident. We are constantly appealing to people to fight instead of committing suicide.
It is known that before this, a 75-year-old farmer was allegedly hanged on January 2 on the Uttar Pradesh-Delhi border in Ghazipur, protesting against the new agricultural laws of the Center. He was identified as Sardar Kashmir Singh, a resident of Bilaspur in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier on December 28 (2020), a Punjab lawyer had allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at some distance from the movement site on the Tikri border in Delhi. He was identified as Amarjeet Singh, a resident of Jalalabad in Fazilka district of Punjab.
Amarjeet Singh was involved in the protest along with the farmers associated with the Indian Farmers Union (BKU) Ugrahan on the Tikri border.
First of all, on December 16, 2020, a 65-year-old Sikh saint Baba Ram Singh of Karnal district of Haryana committed suicide by shooting himself on the Kundli border.
