Omicron to community expansion; Strong in metro cities: Warning

New Delhi: A committee under the Ministry of Health has said that the Omicron virus, a variant of Covid, is in the process of spreading. Insacog (Indian SARS-COV-2 Consortium on Genomics) has warned of a strong Omicron expansion in metro cities. Inzacog is a consortium of ten national laboratories formed to collect samples of virus transmission and study their genetic variation and behavior.

The BA2 variant, an infectious subtype of Omicron, is widely found in the country, according to a bulletin released by Insagog. Although most of the cases are asymptomatic, Inzago points out that there is an increase in the number of patients admitted to the hospital and the number of patients admitted to the ICU.

Omikron has dominated multiple metros. Omicron is currently in the community expansion phase. The recently discovered B.1.640.2 variant is being monitored. There is no evidence of rapid spread. According to Insakog, no cases have been reported in India so far.

Meanwhile, concerns continue in the country. However, a slight decrease in the number of new Covid cases has been reported. In the last 24 hours, 3,33,533 lakh new Covid cases have been reported in the country. 525 Covid deaths were also recorded. In the last 24 hours, 4,171 fewer Covid cases were reported than the previous day.
