Om Prakash Chautala Death News: Former Chief Minister of Haryana and Indian National Lok Dal (INOL) chief Om Prakash Chautala died at his Gurugram residence on Friday. He was 89 years old. Party spokesperson told news agency PTI that Om Prakash Chautala died due to cardiac arrest. Om Prakash Chautala, son of former Deputy Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Devi Lal, was the seventh Chief Minister of Haryana. He was born on January 1, 1935 in Chautala village of Sirsa. He has become the CM of Haryana not once but five times.
Chautala had held the post of Haryana CM five times.
Om Prakash Chautala was last seen in public on October 5 during the Haryana Assembly elections. He had reached a polling booth in Sirsa to cast his vote. Chautala took command of the state for the first time as CM in 1989. He remained on this post till 1990. After this, on July 12, 1990, Chautala took oath as CM for the second time. Chautala again had to tender his resignation after five days. After this, he took over as CM on 22 April 1991. But after just two weeks, the central government imposed President’s rule in the state. On July 24, 1999, he took over as CM for the fourth time. In December 1999, he got the assembly dissolved and on March 2, 2000, he took over as CM for the fifth time. After this he completed his tenure of five years.

Om Prakash Chautala’s wife Sneh Lata died in August 2019. Chautala has three daughters and two sons, including Abhay Singh Chautala and Ajay Singh Chautala. Abhay Singh Chautala is an MLA from Ellenabad assembly seat of Haryana. He has also been the leader of opposition in the Haryana Assembly from March 2019 to October 2014. Om Prakash Chautala’s great-grandson Dushyant Chautala is a Jannayak Janata Party leader and has been the Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana in the previous BJP-led coalition government. Dushyant Chautala has also been a former member of Lok Sabha from Hisar seat.
