- The RSS did not take part in the freedom struggle
- Joined hands with the British at crucial stages
- Yechury with a Facebook post
New Delhi: CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has said that the RSS not only did not take part in the freedom struggle but also joined hands with the British at crucial junctures. Yechury’s response came at a time when the BJP and other political parties were mocking the CPM’s Independence Day celebrations.
Yechury criticized the RSS in a Facebook post sharing the names of communist leaders who were freedom fighters. “The RSS not only refused to be a part of the freedom struggle, but also joined hands with the British at crucial junctures,” Yechury said, sharing the names of PB members who were freedom fighters.
Yechury shared information on the jail days of leaders BT Ranadive, R Sundarayya, M Basavapunayya, Harkishan Singh Surjeet, EMS Namboodiripad, AK Gopalan, P Ramamurthy, Pramod Dasgupta and Jyoti Basu.
This is the first time that Independence Day is being celebrated under the auspices of the CPM. Acting Secretary A Vijayaraghavan hoisted the national flag at the AKG Center, the state committee office in Thiruvananthapuram. However, A Vijayaraghavan said this was not the first time the national flag had been hoisted at the state committee office. In 1947, P Krishna Pillai hoisted the flag. The Left was a self-sacrificing party. The agrarian reform was raised by the Left during the freedom struggle. Avijayaraghavan had said that the country is ruled by people who are not participants in the freedom struggle.
