The mRNA coronavirus vaccine technology was in the experimental stage before the start of the coronavirus pandemic. However, this vaccine has saved the lives of billions of people around the world. The same mRNA technology is now being used in research to develop vaccines for other diseases, including cancer. The Nobel Prize Committee said, “The contribution of these two scientists to provide us with the weapons to fight a disease that poses the biggest threat to human health at this time should not be forgotten.”
Carrico and Weissman first began working together in the 1990s at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States. Carrico and Weissman published their findings in 2005. The Nobel committee said, through their work, they prepared the basis for making a corona vaccine.

Corona vaccine is made with mRNA technology. Vaccines are made from dead or dormant parts of the virus or bacteria that cause the disease. By injecting that part into the body, the immune system is artificially manipulated. However, mRNA vaccines are developed in a completely different way. In this case, the vaccine is made by replicating the mRNA of the virus or bacteria.
