The Turkish Foreign Minister had talks on Sunday with his Turkish Cypriot and Indonesian counterparts in New York, on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“Before the meetings of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, I, as usual, had an interview with my brother Tahsin Ertugruloglu of the #TRNC,” Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Twitter.
Reaffirming Turkey’s solidarity with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Cavusoglu said: “Equality in sovereignty and international status are inherent rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.”
The Turkish foreign minister also met Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi in New York.
Cavusoglu said on Twitter that he had a “fruitful meeting” with Marsudi, who will visit Turkey next month.
“We will further strengthen our bilateral relations in all fields,” he also said, stressing the “close cooperation” of Turkey and Indonesia within the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the D8 Economic Cooperation Organization and MIKTA, an informal partnership made up of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia.
The 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly opened last week and the general summit debate will begin on Tuesday. Some 130 heads of state and government are expected.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also visited New York on Sunday, where he is scheduled to attend and speak at this year’s United Nations General Assembly.
