A negotiation process has started in Mexico between representatives of the Venezuelan government and the opposition.
The negotiations are taking place in Mexico City with the mediation of Norway.
As part of the start of the dialogue, the parties signed a memorandum of understanding defining the framework to be followed. Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard attended the signing ceremony.
The agreement provides for discussion of such issues as: political and electoral rights of representatives of all strata of society, election calendar with the participation of observers, lifting of sanctions and restoration of property rights, respect for the rule of law, refusal of pressure and violence, economic situation, social protection measures, etc. …
The head of the delegation of the single opposition platform of Venezuela, Gerardo Blyde, said that the beginning of the dialogue launched the second stage of the negotiation process.
“Of course, it will be a difficult and difficult process. It was not easy even to agree on the agenda, ”said Blyde.
