NATO Secretary General is grateful to Turkey for its contribution to the security of Kabul airport

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed gratitude to Turkey, the United States and the United Kingdom for their role in providing security at the international airport in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

“I want to especially thank Turkey, the United States and the United Kingdom for their key roles in ensuring security at the Kabul airport,” Stoltenberg said at a news conference following the meeting of NATO foreign ministers.

He recalled that Turkey took part in the management of the air harbor for many years. According to him, Ankara continues to play a key role in ensuring the security of Hamid Karzai Airport, but due to the current crisis, support from other countries is also involved in this.

Stoltneberg said that NATO foreign ministers agreed that “terrorists should not be allowed to threaten the alliance countries from Afghanistan again.”

“The Taliban must end the violence and respect the fundamental rights of all Afghans,” the secretary general said.

The head of the North Atlantic Alliance added that the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the NATO countries came to the conclusion that diplomatic recognition of the current authorities of Afghanistan will depend on the position of the new government and its compliance with international obligations.
