Myanmar coach: ‘Vietnam is the strongest team at AFF Cup 2024’

“The Myanmar team will aim for victory in the group stage finale. The match against Vietnam is very difficult because of the strong opponent, but we are prepared. This is a key heroic performance for the two teams,” coach Myo Hlaing Win of Myanmar shared before the closing match of the AFF Cup group stage, taking place at 8:00 p.m. on December 21.

After 3 matches, the Myanmar team has 4 points. Mr. Myo Hlaing Win and his team won against Laos (3-2), drew with the Philippines (1-1) and lost to Indonesia (0-1). To enter the semi-finals, Myanmar must win against the Vietnamese team and then wait for a favorable result in the match between Indonesia and the Philippines. In case Indonesia wins against the Philippines, Myanmar must beat Vietnam by 2 goals to be sure to have a ticket to continue.

Coach Myo Hlaing Win emphasized: “With the support of the home crowd, we won against Laos. This brings confidence to the whole team. I also hope my players will have the spirit “I want to thank my players for the spirit shown on the field in the match against Laos. We will prepare carefully for tomorrow’s match.”

The match against Myanmar will be Nguyen Xuan Son’s debut on the Vietnamese team. However, Mr. Myo Hlaing Win emphasized that the Vietnamese team has many good players, not just Xuan Son. “Myanmar does not focus on any individual player, but focuses on the entire Vietnamese team. Tomorrow is an interesting match,” said Myanmar’s coach.

The Myanmar team will not have captain Maung Maung Lwin in the match against Vietnam. Maung Maung Lwin along with Aung Thu are rare experienced players of the Myanmar team in recent years, but even without number 11 in the squad, Mr. Myo Hlaing Win is not worried.

“We have prepared for tomorrow, there are options to replace our number 11 player. Our number 11 player is very important but unfortunately he is absent. We want 3 points, We believe that with effort, the Myanmar team can do this,” the Myanmar coach affirmed.
