Moscow: “the West” is at the origin of the migrant crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland

AA / Moscow

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West, which tries to impose its own conception of life and democracy in the world, has caused the crisis of irregular migrants on the border between Belarus and Poland.

Asked about the issue of irregular migrants stranded at the Belarusian-Polish border, during a joint press conference held on Tuesday with the Secretary for Relations with States (Minister of Foreign Affairs) at the Vatican, Paul Richard Gallagher, Lavrov said the solution to these problems lies in respect for international human rights principles, and their origins.

He stressed that the main responsibility for resolving the migrant crisis lies with those who create the conditions for its emergence, noting the need for the European Union to avoid bilateral approaches on the refugee issue.

For his part, Polish Prime Minister Matusz Morawiecki said in a tweet shared on Tuesday during a visit to his country’s borders with Belarus, that the current issue threatens the stability and security of not only his country, but also from the European Union.

The Polish official accused Belarus of being at the origin of the refugee crisis, stressing that the current situation does not frighten them and that they will maintain peace in Europe with the help of their NATO allies and of the European Union.

On Monday, many asylum seekers attempted to cross the border into Poland from Belarus, where there are currently around 4,000 irregular migrants at the borders of the two countries, according to the Polish news agency.
