More than 50.65 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine introduced in Turkey


As part of a mass vaccination campaign launched in Turkey on January 14, more than 50.65 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Health of the republic on Thursday.

According to the department, a total of more than 35.11 million people received the first doses, and more than 15.22 million people were fully vaccinated.

So far, over 5.3 million patients with coronavirus infection have recovered in Turkey.

According to the ministry, over the past day, 42 more deaths from a new type of coronavirus have been confirmed in the country, and the total number of victims of the disease has reached 49,774.

The ministry added that the total number of registered cases of coronavirus infection amounted to more than 5.43 million people, over the past day, another 5,288 people tested positive for the virus.

According to the Ministry of Health, over 61 million tests have been carried out for COVID-19 since the outbreak began.

The pandemic began with the discovery of the first cases of pneumonia of unknown origin in Wuhan, Hubei province in central China at the end of December 2019.

On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of unknown pneumonia.

On January 30, WHO recognized the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a public health emergency of international concern.

On February 11, 2020, the disease was named the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
