The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted “emergency use authorization” to booster doses of both Covid-19 vaccines made by Moderna and Johnson & Johnson, and also reported that any of the three approved vaccines can be used as boosters with a “mix and match” approach.
According to the FDA’s statement, those who have received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine at least 6 months ago, Americans over the age of 65 or over the age of 18 working in risky jobs can receive the Moderna booster vaccine, while those who have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the age of 18 or over can receive the first vaccine. After 2 months, the booster vaccine can be applied.
The FDA is expected to decide in the coming weeks whether to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.
