Nikola Mirotic was decisive in one of his worst matches in the Euroleague. After failing the six triples he threw, losing four balls and showing well below his usual performance, in the last action of the match, with a tie at 74, and when Barcelona only had six seconds to complete their attack, he was totally right. He received the ball inside the zone and there he scrambled to find the right angle to score on the final horn. The Montenegrin player redeemed himself from his bad match in the best possible way. Barcelona has six victories in six games and continues to be the leader of the Euroleague.

The Barça team had to recover from a disastrous start in which the Czech Vesely scored the first ten points for Fenerbahçe and opened the maximum difference of the match 12-2. Barcelona’s inner defense did not work. Nor did he hit the triples. He finished with a poor percentage of 24% (5 of 21) and thanks to the hits at the end of Higgins and Calathes. But Jasikevicius’ team proved its ability to maintain a high level without Mirotic and without outside shooting. Smits partially amended the flat to his partner. Calathes successfully moved the team and Davies and Higgins also added. It was basically this quartet that gave the reply to Fenerbahçe led by Sasha Djordjevic, a very fierce team, but which also showed many gaps, especially in the rebound. Barcelona captured 11 more than their rival and that allowed them to be ahead on the scoreboard in their best phases of the game (29-36 before the break and 55-61 already in the last five minutes).

Fenerbahçe also accused De Colo’s discreet game. But Guduric assumed the dynamic role of his team’s game. Barcelona suffered to finish off the victory. A triple by Henry put it 69-70 on the scoreboard with one minute and 40 seconds to go. A momentous action followed. Nigel-Davis measured badly when he penetrated the zone and the referees in the first instance called a foul in attack. But the play was reviewed and the referees changed the decision because they observed that Henry was stepping on the semicircle within the zone. Hayes made both free throws. Henry then missed and Mirotic from the free throw line made it 69-74.

There were 64 seconds left. Enough for the successes of Fenerbahçe and the mistakes of Barça to be chained. Vesely hit a free throw, missed the second but grabbed the rebound himself and made it 72-74 with 43 seconds left. Davies made steps in the next Barça attack. Booker equaled 74 with six seconds to go. And in that moment, Mirotic showed why he is one of the best European players with the fantastic way in which he fought off the defenders that surrounded him inside the zone to score the decisive basket.
