The world of the NFL received one of the most controversial events of its last years when the lawsuit of the iconic player, Michael Oher, was revealed to his guardians for allegedly not having received a single dollar after selling the rights to his life for the movie “The blind side” (A possible dream), which was starring Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock.
Given this fact, which occurred in 2009 and was based on the impressive story of overcoming this NFL figure until he was chosen in the draft by the Baltimore Ravens, Michael’s tutor decided to talk about the statements of de Oher and He also assured that he only gave him the money provided for said tape.
Sean Tuohy, 63, clarified in the first instance and during an interview with Daily Memphian, that the reason why they could not legally adopt Michael was because he was 18 years old and under US law it was no longer possible.
“I remember sitting down with Michael and saying, ‘If you plan to play at the University of Ole Miss, we believe you should legally be a part of this family. We contacted lawyers, but they told us that we could not adopt him as he was over 18 years of age, so they offered us the option of guardianship,” said Oher’s guardian.
Tuohy also stated that if necessary, he is willing to sign the papers to stop being the offensive tackler’s guardian if he wishes; He assured that the words of the one who has practically been his son for so many years left him quite surprised, especially after opening the doors of his house for him.
“It is obvious that I am upset to hear all this. It’s a crazy world, you never know where the blows can come from, there is a feeling of ingratitude, but if he wants our guardianship to end, we concede it and we’re done.” stressed.
Finally, Oher’s guardian assured that they did not receive much money for having sold the rights to the life of the former NFL player and that in reality the largest amount of money they received was for the book; he maintained that each of the family members received $14,000, including Oher.
“We don’t make money from the movie. Well, we don’t make a fortune. The author of the book (‘The Blind Side’ by Michael Lewis) gave us half of the part of it.Everyone in the family, Michael included, received an equal share of the money, which was about $14,000 each,” he said.
