A member of the United States Marine Corps was accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl.. Until now, the identity of the marine has not been revealed, but, according to the news portal Fox News, the young woman was found in the Pendleton field, located in the state of California.
The suspect has been charged with sexual assault of a minor and of violating the freedom restrictions that had been imposed on him for another case that is not related to the alleged harassment of the 14-year-old girl.
According to information from Fox News, The 14-year-old girl had been missing for more than two weeks when military police located her in a barracks on June 28 at the base, which was located 40 miles north of San Diego, California..
The young woman had apparently run away from home in early June, according to her grandmother’s testimony. However, other relatives speculated that the girl had been sold by a sex trafficker, Fox News reported.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reported that the young woman has been returned to her grandmother, who resides in Spring Valley.
Until now, the circumstances that led the member of the Marine Corps to meet, supposedly, the 14-year-old girl, and how exactly the girl arrived at the base, are unknown.
Fox News reported that, after a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 17, authorities will decide whether the suspect faces court martial. This was reported by Captain Charles Palmer, of the 1st Marine Logistics Group.
