The sixth round of La Liga is coming up this weekend and it opens with Alavés-Sevilla on Friday. Matches of different calibre for the title favourites, although Villarreal-Barcelona will be the highlight of the day. The leader, who has won all their matches, faces a Villarreal who have not known defeat. Madrid hosts a rising Espanyol, while Atlético has a difficult visit to Vallecas in the regional derby.
Madrid derby between Getafe and Leganés. José Bordalás’ men will go into the match after losing in the midweek match against Betis and have many problems, especially in attack. Leganés started the competition well, but is starting to have problems.
A very interesting match at San Mamés between Athletic and Celta. The Galician team is becoming the surprise team of the season. Iago Aspas is performing at a good level, very well supported by Borja Iglesias, who has already scored three goals. Athletic arrives strengthened after its victory in Leganés (0-2).
The big duel of the day between a Villarreal side that has not known defeat in the league and a leader, Barcelona, that only knows how to win. Two very defined styles of football in a match that is expected to be exciting. Barcelona arrives at the match without Dani Olmo, injured for at least a month due to a muscle problem. Barcelona lost in Monaco in their Champions League debut (2-1).
Rayo arrive at this second Madrid derby of the day after a great victory against Osasuna (3-1). James, the big signing from the Vallecanos, has already made his debut. Atlético faces the match in very good form, with players like Gallagher and Julián Álvarez, in good form. Simeone’s men have reinforced themselves very well and are coming off a win in the Champions League.
Betis achieved their first win of the season by beating Getafe. The arrival of players such as Lo Celso and Vitor Roque should increase the performance of a team that will fight for European spots. Mallorca comes to the match wanting to redeem itself. Both teams won their two midweek matches.
Goals from Carlos Vicente and Martín gave them the victory, although Lukebakio shortened the gap almost at the end.
Real Sociedad have gone another match without a win, this time against a Valladolid side that has not started well in its return to the top flight either. With this draw, Valladolid ends up tied on points with Imanol’s team.
Osasuna beat Las Palmas at El Sadar in an electric match where both teams had clear scoring chances. The Navarrese team took the lead thanks to a penalty by Mika Mármol on Budimir, converted by the Croatian in the 39th minute. Just two minutes later, a cross by Sandro Ramírez left Alberto Moleiro alone, who headed in and scored the 1-1. In the second half, Aimar Oroz put Osasuna ahead again, which served to take the three points. Vicente Gómez’s team remains in 7th position with 10 points after the victory and Las Palmas in the penultimate position with two.
Valencia won again at Mestalla at the expense of a Girona side with an overload of matches. The Che team won with goals from Luis Rioja and Dani Gómez and it has helped them to get out of last place, but not out of the relegation zone. Rubén Baraja’s team needed 13 games and 159 days to get back to three points and breathe again after a bad start to the League. The club managed by Míchel remains in 12th place with seven points.
Ancelotti’s men took all three points at the Bernabéu against Espanyol after coming back from Courtois’ own goal. Vinicius, who came on as a substitute, turned the game around by scoring and assisting. Carvajal equalised and Rodrygo, Vinicius and Mbappé completed the comeback from the penalty spot. Los Blancos remain second with 14 points. Los Pericos, meanwhile, are thirteenth with seven points.
