The Spanish Super Cup is back in the spotlight. This time it is not because of the million-dollar commissions destined for Gerard Piqué and Luis Rubiales, the ideologists of the transfer of the competition to Saudi Arabia, nor because of the lack of atmosphere that affects some of the teams in Jeddah. “It doesn’t make any sense for us to play in Arabia. It’s a shame because a match as attractive as this, if it had been played closer, would have filled the stadium with many of our fans,” protested Iñaki Williams after the defeat against Barcelona in the semifinal.
The new problem, however, is security. An unfortunate situation that fans and members of the Mallorca team suffered after the match against Madrid: “touching” and “harassment” of the wives of players and fans were reported. “As soon as they told us, security began to work, in collaboration with Mallorca and the local authorities. We are trying to recover all the information to act,” they say from the RFEF.
“The start was a bit complicated. We have gone out with the children and we have been without security,” Cristina Palavra, partner of Dani Rodríguez, a Mallorca soccer player, told Esports IB3. “The truth,” Palavra continued, “is that the kids in this country have started taking photos of us up close and have been harassing us. To Natali, Dominik Greif’s wife, too. We have felt a little out of place. We had no one protecting us. The start was very bad.” With her daughter in her arms and accompanied by the rest of the delegation, Palavra was calmed when she boarded the organization’s bus, which would take her back to the hotel.

Among fans, family and friends, Mallorca was supported by nearly 300 people, according to data from the Balearic entity. However, not only the footballers’ relatives were affected. “During the game they didn’t take care of us. “They placed us mixed with local fans who were provoking us,” explained a Mallorca fan in Jeddah to Cadena Cope. According to the same fan, that was not the worst: “On the way from the stands to the bus, which lasted about 15 or 20 minutes, the whole time they were shouting at us, they made passages for us, hundreds of people took photos of us without consent, they even hit us. slapping their heads, making fun of us, making us 3-0 with their fingers… Very, very unpleasant.” The behavior was even more invasive and unpleasant with women: “They have suffered touching.”
