Jagoba Arrasate became Mallorca’s new coach this Monday for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2027, as confirmed by the Balearic club in a statement. The coach arrives at the vermilion entity after his time at Osasuna, which was promoted to the First Division and led to a Copa del Rey final.
The Biscayan coach lands on the island after a “successful” six-year period in the Navarrese team and as a replacement for the Mexican Javier Aguirre. Arrasate, who managed to establish the rojillos in the elite, led Osasuna in the 2022-2023 season to the Cup final against Real Madrid (2-1 defeat), which also gave them a ticket for the Spanish Super Cup in 2024, and qualified him for the playoffsof access to the Conference 2023-2024, where it was eliminated by Belgian team Bruges.
At 46 years old, the former coach of Real Sociedad and Numancia takes the reins of the Mallorcan team, which in addition to the League and the Cup, will play in the Spanish Super Cup after being runners-up in the Cup.
The Basque coach highlighted that all coaches are “about challenges and projects.” “It’s something we say many times, but it’s not easy to find in professional football. Now we undertake another challenge, another project, and I am very excited because that is what a coach wants: to build something,” he noted. Arrasate stressed that Mallorca is “an emerging club.” “The last few years prove it. And above all because it offers me confidence, a project. I believe that when I have had the possibility of being with them, in the end what the coach likes is to feel loved and they have transmitted that interest and that project to me as well,” he said.
“The three years give me room to build something from something that I have been able to inherit, which is very good. And I’m not going to deceive you either: family is very important to me and we also understand that the family is going to be fine in Mallorca,” concluded the new vermilion coach.
