Mali: three people placed under arrest warrant including the former commander of FORSAT in Bamako

The former commander of the Special Anti-Terrorism Force (FORSAT), Oumar Samaké, police commissioner was arrested on Friday by judge Dembo Macina of the investigating cabinet of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of commune III of Bamako.

“The Police Commissioner was heard, along with several of his companions, by the court in the case of the killings of the demonstrations of July 10, 11 and 12, 2020,” said investigating judge Demba Macina.

“After hearing, Oumar Samaké was indicted and placed under a committal warrant”, explained Hamadoun Oueleguem, deputy to the prosecutor of commune III.

“A few hours after the announcement of his indictment, elements of FORSAT opposed the arrest of the commander before being overpowered by the investigating judges” indicated the same source.

The police are currently demonstrating in the capital against the removal of their boss from the Bamako remand center.

Other arrests preceded that of the police commissioner, Oumar Samaké.

Thursday, the president of the Kayes circle council, Dr Modibo Timbo, and Mrs Diarra Bassira Coulibaly accountant at the Kayes reference health center were placed under arrest warrant by the examining magistrate in the so-called “dossier du Kayes Reference Health Center.
