The captain of the Malaysian team is about to expire
The fact that Malaysia is about to change its “general” was announced by FAM on the morning of December 16. However, according to FAM, Mr. Peter Cklamovski will accept the team after the 2024 AFF Cup ends. Currently, Spanish coach Pau Marti will continue to lead the “Malay Tigers” and hold full authority over decisions in the dressing room. In addition to Mr. Peter Cklamovski, FAM also appointed coach Nafuzi Zain as the new captain of the U.23 team.
According to Malaysian media, FAM spent a lot of time analyzing before appointing Mr. Peter Cklamovski as head coach of the country’s national team. In 2015, when the Australian team won the 2015 Asian Cup, Mr. Peter Cklamovski was an assistant to coach Ange Postecoglou (current coach of Tottenham Hotspur – playing in the Premier League). In 2019, Mr. Peter Cklamovski and Yokohama Marinos also won the J-League 1 championship.
Notably, the first goal that FAM set for Mr. Peter Cklamovski is to help the Malaysian team appear in the 2027 Asian Cup. This is considered a difficult task for the Australian coach because in the qualifying round, the team Malaysia is in Group F with Vietnam, Laos and Nepal. According to the tournament’s regulations, only the 6 teams ranked first in the qualifying groups will qualify for the final round, along with the 18 teams present after the second qualifying round ended last June.
“Two important figures will lead the new organizational structure of the Malaysian team. This was the beginning of a major revolution in Malaysian football. Mr. Peter Cklamovski is a young coach of great caliber, ensuring that the Malaysian team can compete better in the international arena, starting with the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying campaign next March. We must surpass Vietnam, Laos, and Nepal to be present in this tournament,” FAM emphasized.
Regarding Malaysian football, the country’s men’s team is still having difficulty at the AFF Cup 2024. After 3 matches, the “Malaysian Tigers” only have 4 points, ranked 3rd in Group A. In the final match, which took place On December 20, Malaysia will play at home in Bukit Jalil and clash with Singapore (2nd ranked team with 6 points). The Malaysian team must win this match to have any hope of finishing the group stage with one of the top two positions and winning tickets to the semi-finals.
