UK: Addressing the country on Monday night, Johnson said that Britain is at a turning point in the fight against the rapidly spreading infection.
UK | British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has imposed a new lockdown by the middle of February due to the coronavirus pandemic and appealed to people to come and stay in their homes. In fact, due to the new form of coronavirus, this pandemic has taken an even more dangerous form and has become more contagious.
Addressing the country on Monday night, Johnson said that Britain is at a turning point in the fight against the rapidly spreading infection. Like the lockdown imposed in March 2020, he announced a complete lockdown in which schools and businesses would remain closed.
Johnson said, ‘Today our hospitals are under more pressure than before due to Covid-19. It is clear that we need to do a lot together to control this new form of virus. In England, we have to put a nationwide lockdown which is very strict in terms of combating this virus. This means that the government is once again directing you to stay at home.
He said that the number of hospitalized patients has increased to about 27,000, which is more than in April 2020.
Johnson said, ‘We are running the biggest vaccination program in our history. A far greater number of people have been vaccinated in Britain than in the whole of Europe.
He said that if everything goes as expected, we will be able to give the first dose of vaccine to all the people of the four top priority groups by February, after which it will be possible to remove many restrictions.
In his address, he told the people that they should go out only for necessary shopping, regular exercise or medical reasons.
Johnson said Britain was entering the ‘final phase of the conflict’.
