Lego Horizon Adventures brings the fascinating post-apocalyptic world of Horizon Zero Dawn into the colorful and playful Lego universe. This reinterpretation, while maintaining the essence of the original setting with its robotic dinosaurs and lush scenery, significantly deviates from the plot and depth of Guerrilla Games’ title. Aloy’s story is stripped to the bare bones, eliminating the intricate subplots and narrative nuances that made Horizon Zero Dawn so engaging. The focus is on a linear mission that sees Aloy committed to saving her tribe and the world from an environmental threat. While we understand the need to simplify the narrative for a younger audience, the choice to sacrifice much of Horizon’s narrative richness appears questionable, especially considering the ability demonstrated in the past by Lego games to faithfully transpose complex stories.
From an aesthetic point of view, Lego Horizon Adventures is a real gem. The isometric environments, entirely built with bricks, creatively recreate the atmosphere of Horizon. The Lego Movie-style animations, dynamic lighting and abundance of colors help create a high-impact visual experience, probably the most fascinating ever seen in a Lego game. The gameplay focuses on fast-paced action, with fights against robotic dinosaurs requiring the use of different weapons and abilities. Aloy and her companions can use bows, bombs and special powers to defeat enemies in spectacular fashion. Boss battles, against creatures like the colossal Thunderjaw, offer more challenging challenges that require planning and precision.
Unfortunately, the brevity of the adventure represents a significant limitation. The main campaign can be completed in a few hours, especially in cooperative mode. The lack of extra content and the limited variety of puzzles and secrets to discover contribute to making the overall experience less satisfying. Lego Horizon Adventures is a fun and technically impeccable title that will entertain younger players. The faithful reproduction of Horizon’s setting and the frenetic action are its strong points. However, the oversimplification of the plot, the brevity of the adventure and the lack of extra content represent shortcomings that could disappoint Horizon fans and the most demanding players.
