A well-informed Lebanese political source told the Anadolu Agency on Saturday that “it is likely that Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri will present a ministerial list next week to President Michel Aoun.”
The source, who requested anonymity, did not provide further details on the matter.
Hariri recently announced that he would forgo government formation if the political deadlock continues to hamper his mission, saying in a tweet published in mid-June that he is prioritizing government composition, before apologizing for training him, which he says remains an option. ”
Last December, Hariri announced that he had “presented Aoun with a government composition of 18 competent ministers, far from any political affiliation.”
However, Aoun previously expressed his refusal due to “Hariri’s stubbornness in unilaterally appointing ministers, especially Christians, without the agreement of the Presidency of the Republic.”
On October 22, Aoun tasked Hariri with forming a government, after his predecessor, Mustafa Adib, apologized for the failure of his mission.
It should be noted that the differences between the different parties prevent the formation of a ministerial cabinet to succeed the current interim government, led by Hassan Diab, who resigned on August 10, 2020, 6 days after the explosion in the port of the capital, Beirut.
