France supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Moldova. This was stated by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian at a press conference following a meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Nicu Popescu in Chisinau.
“Paris also supports Moldova’s initiative aimed at integrating the country into the European Union. The formation of a government in Moldova, the course of which is oriented towards Europe, is an important signal, ”the French diplomat said.
Touching upon the topic of Transnistria, which unilaterally proclaimed independence from Chisinau, Le Drian stressed that Paris supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders.
“Paris expresses support for the negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement, which are being held in the 5 + 2 format (Moldova, Transnistria, Russia, Ukraine, the United States, OSCE and the EU) under the auspices of the OSCE. France is ready to continue cooperation with Moldova in various fields, ”the head of French diplomacy assured.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova touched upon the topic of interaction with the EU.
“In the near future we will approve new plans and steps regarding the issue of Moldova’s European integration and deepening cooperation with the EU. Moldova looks forward to deeper cooperation with the EU, ”Popescu said.
