Joan Laporta charged this Monday against the use of VAR during Sunday’s Classic played at the Santiago Bernabéu. Especially in the action of a possible goal by Lamine Yamal that was not awarded, as the referee did not have a reliable repetition of the play that would help to see if the ball had crossed the goal line or not. The president of FC Barcelona, through a video posted on the club’s social networks, has announced that the Barça institution will request the Technical Committee of Referees and the Spanish Federation for all the images and audio available from that moment of the match.
Furthermore, Laporta did not rule out asking for a replay of the match, in case the club considered, once viewing the images, that the goal was valid. “If, once the documentation has been analyzed, the club understands that an error occurred in the assessment of the play, as we think, we will undertake all appropriate actions to reverse the situation, without ruling out the necessary legal actions. If it is confirmed that it was a legal goal, we will go further and ask for a replay of the match,” said the Barça president.
Laporta’s complaint with the use of video arbitration was not limited to Lamine Yamal’s play, but he also expressed his disagreement with the lack of intervention of the VAR in actions that the Barça president considered were subject to review. “I want to emphasize that although we will focus on this play, we also disagree with various actions that occurred during the course and that could be consulted in the VAR,” he noted.
Finally, he addressed the team’s members and fans: “This position of the club is neither free nor advantageous, but rather an action that we must take in the face of the defenseless situation we are experiencing and having suffered numerous actions on the field of play this season. that have harmed us and others that have benefited our rival. And when both are added, they show that distance in points at the top of the League,” he stated.
