LaLiga has authorised the registration of Dani Olmo, FC Barcelona’s star signing of the summer, who has not been able to take part in the first two matchdays. The Catalan club has tried to free up salary caps in recent weeks to sign the attacker, but has not been able to do so. They have found a way through Andreas Christensen’s injury, which LaLiga’s medical tribunal has certified will be out for at least four months, so it can be considered long-term. This opens up the option of signing another player in his place, despite not having salary cap space.
Christensen suffered a tendinopathy in his left Achilles tendon last week in a training session prior to Barça-Athletic in Montjuïc, an injury that had already plagued the Dane during last season. Until now, the Catalan club had not offered a prognosis on the recovery time of its central defender and had limited itself to pointing out that his return to training depended on “the evolution of the situation”.
Dani Olmo signed for Barça on August 9. Since then, the Catalan club has been involved in a constant struggle to secure the registration of its new midfielder. It was hoped that the situation would find a solution with the departure of Ilkay Gündogan to Manchester City, but that was not the case. Nor did it happen with the recent loans of Clement Lenglet or Vitor Roque. Barça has had to wait until a decision from the LaLiga medical tribunal to achieve the objective of registering its only major signing for this season.
