- In Tikoniya area of Lakhimpur Kheri, there was a ruckus due to the death of 8 people including four farmers.
- Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra was the target, the opposition was demanding resignation
- Yogi cooled the protest by holding a press conference of farmer leader Rakesh Tikait and ADG Prashant Kumar.
The death of 8 people including 4 farmers was an unfortunate incident in Lakhimpur Kheri, UP on Sunday evening of 3 October. Who said to share the misery, the leaders of non-BJP ruled states immediately started politics. Not only Delhi, leaders from Chhattisgarh and Punjab also left for Lakhimpur. The leaders of Congress, SP, BSP and Aam Aadmi Party left no stone unturned to capture the anti-BJP atmosphere ahead of the 2022 assembly elections. Videos of fights went viral when police stopped, Priyanka Gandhi sweeps as a protest in custody, AAP’s Sanjay Singh was stopped, Akhilesh Yadav was not allowed to go to Lakhimpur, then he started dharna on the road in Lucknow itself. When Shivpal Yadav was placed under house arrest, he escaped by climbing the wall. He was later taken into custody. Supporters of Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Jayant Chaudhary broke toll plaza barrier in Garhmukteshwar (Hapur). Chowdhary got into his car while running and left for Lakhimpur Kheri. The quickness of the leaders was telling that the opposition is trying to capitalize on this matter before the elections.
On the other hand, Yogi Adityanath, the chief of the state, was taking updates from moment to moment in Lucknow. The responsibility of handling the matter after the violent protests was on his shoulders. Within 20 hours, he handled the situation in such a way that all the politics of the opposition was in ruins. The atmosphere which had been hot since morning turned into a breeze by 1 o’clock in the afternoon. As soon as the picture of the press conference together with farmer leader Rakesh Tikait and ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar surfaced, the voice of the opposition turned cold as the government had accepted all the demands of the protesting farmers. This blocked all avenues for the opposition to heat up the issue. BJP spokespersons who were debating on TV channels said that Yogi handled the matter effectively by staying awake throughout the night. He lashed out at the opposition and said that you did not walk in front of Yogi. By making a compromise with the help of farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, Yogi failed all the blows of the opposition.
The killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday had further heated the atmosphere against the BJP. The opposition broke down on the all-round Yogi government. To handle the situation, the chief minister of the state, Yogi Adityanath, postponed all the programs. It is said that till late Sunday night, he kept meeting with senior officials at his residence regarding the incident in Lakhimpur. Just before the elections, Yogi tried his best to get the BJP trapped in the vortex from the Lakhimpur incident in the midst of the farmers’ agitation and he was successful.
In fact, whether it is the Modi government at the Center or the Yogi government of UP, they have had a similar stand on the farmers’ movement since day one. It has been repeatedly said by the government that the farmers will benefit from the three new laws and the mandis will not end, the MSP is not being reduced but is being increased. Recently too, the central government had given a message to the countrymen by increasing the minimum support price for many crops that the government is with the farmers and there is a political motive behind the demonstration on the Delhi border. Many things have been tossed about the farmer leader Rakesh Tikait on social media regarding his political purpose. In such a situation, when the news of the incident of violence in Lakhimpur reached Lucknow on Sunday evening, Yogi immediately took charge.
Many opposition leaders had left for Lakhimpur Kheri in the night itself, so Yogi was in alert mode. He made every effort to prevent the atmosphere from deteriorating. The government feared that the arrival of the leaders could disturb the law and order in the area. In such a situation, the leaders of all the parties, be it Congress, AAP, SP or BSP, were directed to be detained at different places. Even though his sharp statements came in the media, but the government stood firm on its decision. In protest, Priyanka Gandhi even planted a broom in her room in custody.
CM Yogi continued to take updates on the Lakhimpur incident. The order to stop internet service in Lakhimpur was also issued soon. The site of the incident, Tikunia, was converted into a police cantonment. ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar and IG Range Laxmi Singh camped at Lakhimpur Kheri.
Yogi came in front
In the night itself, CM Yogi tweeted that the incident that happened in Lakhimpur Kheri district is very sad and unfortunate. The UP government will go to the bottom of the causes of this incident and expose the elements involved in the incident. Strict action will be taken against the culprits. He said that on the spot, the appointment of Additional Chief Secretary, Personnel and Agriculture, A.D.G. Law and Order, Commissioner Lucknow and I.G. Lucknow are present and keeping the situation under control, they are probing the cause of the incident in depth. Whoever is responsible for the incident, the government will take strict action against him.
He appealed to the people of the area not to be misled by anyone and contribute in maintaining peace and order on the spot. Wait for the on-the-spot investigation and action before jumping to any conclusion. By saying this, Yogi tried to put an end to the rumors, speculations and discussions about Lakhimpur Kheri.
If it’s morning…
State government spokesperson and cabinet minister Siddharth Nath Singh termed the opposition parties’ visit to Lakhimpur Kheri as a political stunt causing unrest. “Opposition parties are trying to get photo ops and take political advantage,” he alleged. The political journey they want to travel till 2022 cannot be done on dead bodies. The government does not want that the atmosphere of peace in Lakhimpur Kheri should be disturbed. The government wants a proper investigation to be conducted in a peaceful atmosphere and based on that further action can be taken.
trend on twitter, videos of opposition leaders go viral
Since late night, tweets and videos of opposition leaders started pouring in, in which an attempt was made to directly put the UP government in the dock. Trends started on Twitter. The leaders were seen trying unsuccessfully to reach Lakhimpur. On the other hand, Yogi was trying to keep the situation under control and steps should be taken to pacify the farmers. From 5 pm on Sunday till 12 in the morning, the events kept changing rapidly.
The Yogi government wanted the farmers to be persuaded even before the gherao of the farmers, the Congress protests, the SP’s protest, the Jantar Mantar candle march in the evening. Something similar happened. At 1 pm, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait himself appeared in front of the media along with the police officers.
The government accepted all the demands
ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that the government has accepted the demands of the farmers. 45 lakhs and a government job will be given to the families of the four farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kheri yesterday. 10 lakh will be given to the injured. FIR will be registered on the complaint of farmers and retired High Court judge will investigate the matter.
Akhilesh, Priyanka, Tikait, Sanjay Singh… what the leader said on the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, watch the video
It was clear from the sitting of Tikait with the ADG that the matter has been resolved. As soon as this news was received, wherever the opposition was engaged in the demonstration, the workers started scattered one by one. SP President Akhilesh Yadav was also seen going on a new track by referring to the cases of murder in Gorakhpur, suspicious death of saint in Prayagraj without seeing the scope in Lakhimpur incident.
It’s a bit like changing the word commentary in cricket – the game has gone ahead and put the ‘issue’ out of discussion, leaving no chance for the opposition.
