EA Sports LaLiga continues with the fifth round of the competition, scheduled between 13 and 16 September. Barcelona, who lead the table, overcame their difficult away trip to Girona with a thrashing at Montilivi. Madrid also faced a tough visit to Real Sociedad where they took the three points thanks to two penalties. Atlético beat Valencia at the Metropolitano.

The fifth matchday closed on Monday with the match between Rayo and Osasuna. The Madrid side won after coming back from Raúl’s opening goal. Mumin, Ratiu and Ibai scored in a match marked by James’ debut with Rayo. The Colombian returned to La Liga.
The Andalusians fairly beat an organized opponent after a great second half with Lo Celso in charge.
Villarreal ended their run of not scoring at the Son Moix stadium. Logan Costa put the Castellón team ahead with a goal in the 27th minute. The Mallorcans then equalised thanks to an own goal by Raúl Albiol in the 57th minute and Ayoze Pérez sealed the match in Villareal’s favour by scoring in stoppage time.
Espanyol won after suffering in the final minutes of the match. The first 45 minutes ended in a 1-1 draw in which both teams enjoyed stretches of superiority. In the second half, two goals from Javi Puado made it 3-1. However, Alavés reduced the gap and the match ended 3-2, with Espanyol on the verge of losing at home.
Sevilla won by the minimum thanks to an early goal from Jesús Navas in the 22nd minute. Bertug (Getafe) scored a great header that was ruled out for offside. The Sevillian team finished the match with one man less after Juanlu’s double yellow card in a frenetic second half with Getafe going very offensively and nine minutes of added time.
Real Madrid won at Anoeta with two goals from penalties scored by Vinicius and Mbappé. The white team got rid of the thorn of not having won away from home so far this season. Imanol Alguacil’s men stood up to Ancelotti’s team and had three clear goal-scoring chances that ended up crashing into the white goalpost.
Celta claimed their third win in their third game at Balaídos this season. Claudio Giráldez’s men were far superior to Real Valladolid. Hugo Álvarez and Borja Iglesias scored in the first half, and although the pucelanos improved in the second and reduced the deficit with a goal from Raúl Moro, the sky-blue team killed off the match with a goal from Douvikas in the final stretch after Mario Martín was sent off for a direct red card.
Barcelona won the first Catalan derby of the season on Sunday against Girona at Montilivi, where they took the lead with a double from Lamine Yamal in the first half. In the second, Dani Olmo scored the third with a terrific shot with the instep and Pedri made it four. Ten minutes from time, Stuani reduced the deficit for Míchel’s team, who were far inferior to Hansi Flick’s team.
Athletic Club secured their second league win on Sunday against Las Palmas away from home thanks to goals from Sancet, Nico Williams and Paredes. The home side reduced the deficit first with a goal from Sandro Ramírez and then with another from Álex Muñoz, when Ernesto Valverde’s team was already one man down due to the expulsion of Mikel Jauregizar, but they were unable to salvage any points.
Atlético de Madrid swept Valencia away at the Metropolitano tonight. After a close first half, Gallagher put the Rojiblancos ahead in the 39th minute. In the second half, Griezmann and Julián Álvarez rounded off the scoring. Baraja’s team is left with just one point after five games played.
