Kurdish district of northern Iraq: the ‘Peace Conference’ was held without the prior agreement of the government

AA / Iraq

The interior ministry of the Kurdish district in northern Iraq said on Saturday that the peace conference in Erbil on Friday was held without government approval. “

This is what emerges from a statement issued by the district interior ministry, a copy of which was received by the Anadolu Agency.

This is what the Interior Ministry said, indicating that it “does not in any way reflect the position of the Kurdish district.”

“The necessary steps will be taken to determine the details and circumstances of the holding of this colloquium,” the statement added.

It is the first event of its kind, organized by Sunni and Shiite tribal personalities, in Erbil, capital of the Kurdish district. During this peace conference, participants pleaded for the normalization of relations with Israel.

The stance comes hours after the federal government announced on Saturday its “categorical” rejection of calls for normalization with Israel, and its firm stance in favor of the Palestinian cause.

Note that Iraq does not establish any relationship with Israel and the majority of political forces reject any form of normalization with Tel Aviv.
