Prayagraj Airport Expansion and Modernization: Due to the Maha Kumbh Mela being held in Prayagraj, a new pace is being seen in the infrastructure development of Uttar Pradesh. The capacity of Prayagraj Airport has been expanded on a large scale for this great festival. Besides, a lot of emphasis has also been given on modernization of the airport. Even before the start of the Maha Kumbh Mela on January 13, Prayagraj Airport is ready to welcome the devotees with its new capabilities. The coming passengers are going to get better and international level facilities.
Expansion and upgradation of existing terminals
The existing terminal of Prayagraj Airport has been made very modern and facility-rich. The peak hour capacity at this airport was 350 passengers, which has now been increased to 1,080 passengers. That means this capacity has almost tripled. For this, the total area of the terminal has also been increased from 6,700 square meters to 8,500 square meters.
Apart from this, the number of check-in counters has also been increased from 11 to 18 and X-Ray Baggage Inspection System (XBIS) machines have been increased from 2 to 4. This project of upgradation of the existing terminal has cost a total of Rs 14 crore. “This upgradation of Prayagraj Airport has been done to provide better facilities to the devotees during the Maha Kumbh Mela.”

A new terminal has been prepared in 17,000 square meter area at Prayagraj Airport, which will start functioning from January 15. This new terminal, built at a cost of Rs 217 crore, is being considered a symbol of the infrastructure development taking place in Uttar Pradesh. The peak hour capacity of this new terminal of Prayagraj Airport is 1,620 passengers. Officials hope that with the opening of the new terminal, passengers visiting during the Maha Kumbh Mela will get world class services.

Increased connectivity for Maha Kumbh
Along with the capacity expansion and modernization of Prayagraj Airport, the number of flights coming and going from here during the Maha Kumbh Mela is also improving significantly. Many airlines like SpiceJet, Alliance Air, Indigo and Akasa Air are increasing the number of their flights, which will help in increasing air connectivity on a large scale. SpiceJet will operate 35 weekly flights from New Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Similarly, Alliance Air will increase flights to Prayagraj from Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Dehradun. IndiGo and Akasa Air are also working on increasing their capacity. After this increase, there will be a total of 117 weekly flights at the airport, which is double the number of flights to and from here in December 2024.

Special arrangements for special passengers
Foreign representatives and VIP guests are also likely to come to Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh Mela. For this, additional parking bays have been created at the airport and more manpower has been deployed. Airport Authority of India (AAI) has made complete arrangements to ensure that passengers traveling to Prayagraj during Mahakumbh do not face any kind of inconvenience.
