Kremlin: Negotiations between the Russian Federation and the new government of Afghanistan are not planned yet


The Russian Federation will continue to closely monitor developments in Afghanistan following the announcement of the composition of the new government.

This was announced on Wednesday, September 8, by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, reports TASS.

“We will closely monitor how the situation develops,” he said.

Peskov did not comment on what conditions would affect the Russian position.

Negotiations between Russia and the new government of Afghanistan are not planned yet, added the press secretary of the Russian president.

The day before, the Taliban movement announced the formation of an “interim government” of Afghanistan, which will be headed by Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund.

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and Mullah Abdul Salam Hanafi have been appointed deputy heads of government.

Sarajuddin Haqqani has been entrusted with the duties of the Minister of Internal Affairs, and Amir Khan Muttaki will serve as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Mohammad Yakub Mujahid has been appointed Acting Minister of Defense, and Zabiullah Mujahid has been appointed Acting Minister of Culture and Communications.

On Monday, the Taliban announced the establishment of full control over the territory of Afghanistan.
