Kovid for 16,338 people in the state today; Kerala to further restrictions

Thiruvananthapuram: Covid-19 has been confirmed for 16,338 more people in the state today. At present, there are 76,819 Covid cases in Kerala, but only 4.4 per cent of them are in hospitals, said Health Minister Veena George.

The minister said 68,971 samples were tested in 24 hours and a total of 1,72,295 people were under observation. 3556 cases were reported in Thirunanthapuram and 3198 in Ernakulam today. The other districts are Kozhikode 1567, Thrissur 1389, Kottayam 1103, Kollam 892, Kannur 787, Pathanamthitta 774, Malappuram 708, Palakkad 703, Alappuzha 588, Idukki 462, Kasaragod 371 and Wayanad 240.

The minister said there were six wards with a weekly infection population ratio above ten and there would be strict control here. A total of 545 new patients have been admitted to hospitals in the state.

The minister said that 20 of the 20 deaths in the last few days were attributed to Covid and that the Supreme Court had added 179 more Covid deaths to its list of deaths as per the new guidelines of the Central Government. This brings the total death toll to 50,568.

Today, 116 health workers are among those who have been diagnosed with the disease. Only 135 came from outside the state. The minister said 3848 people who were undergoing treatment had recovered.
