Fatih Mayor Ergün Turan said, “With this project, Sirkeci and its surroundings will be reshaped as a tourism and trade zone. It will gain vitality with exhibition halls, museums and libraries, recreation and walking areas. More importantly, Fatih will visit Suriçi on the Marmara coastline line. It will have a renewed railway transportation line that runs all the way through.” said.
Kazlıçeşme-Sirkeci Urban Transportation and Recreation Focused Transformation Project was launched with the participation of Adil Karaismailoğlu, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.
In his speech at the event, Fatih Mayor Turan pointed out the importance of the project for Istanbul and Fatih and stated that Istanbul has a geographical location and history that no other city in the world has.
Reminding that Istanbul, a gigantic city spread over two continents where millions of people live, with its privileges and differences, has been known throughout history as the sultan of world cities, he said:
“It was the most important crossroads of trade routes stretching from the East to the West, and it still is. This is a mirror, showcase and most important brand of Turkey with its potential. Indeed, the strategic location of our city, together with the realization of strategic services and huge infrastructure investments, Istanbul’s development on the East-West axis in parallel with Turkey’s development is eye-catching. Its cultural, commercial and touristic value is gradually increasing. We are all aware that both change and transformation are inevitable. It is to shape this city, which lives with a grain of salt, according to the spirit of the time, to carry it to the future, without losing anything from its essence, by preserving its historical, ecological, social and cultural values.
Finally, today, Istanbul, at the stage it has reached in the last quarter century, is in a position to benefit from the positive and progressive transformation that I am trying to explain, thank goodness. Of course, the investments made in Istanbul have a great share in the city’s becoming this privileged. With the AK Party era, the infrastructure services carried out in Istanbul eliminated the most intricate and troublesome issues, many important problems of the city, especially traffic and transportation.”
“With the train services, the transportation opportunity to the region will increase, this place will come to life even more”
Referring to the work done by the public, Turan pointed out that with the services provided, Istanbul has moved from a point where it can be said that “in this city cannot be lived” to a completely different place.
Turan, who also gave information about Kazlıçeşme-Sirkeci Urban Transportation and Recreation-Oriented Transformation Project, said:
“The first steps of the project are being taken. With this project, Sirkeci and its surroundings will be reshaped as a tourism and trade zone, and will gain vitality with exhibition halls, museums and libraries, resting and walking areas. More importantly, Fatih is on the Marmara coastline line, Suriçi is high. It will have a renewed railway transportation line that runs along the coast. Trains equipped with new technology will run on this line, which will operate in integration with Marmaray. Again, in parallel with this line, pedestrian and bicycle tracks, social areas, parks will be built along the coast.
Thus, the connection of our Cankurtaran, Kumkapı, Yenikapı, Cerrahpaşa, Kocamustafapaşa and Yedikule districts with the coast will be strengthened. I find this issue extremely important, because with the cancellation of the suburban services that I mentioned before, the transportation axis shifted to other routes, and these oldest neighborhoods within the city walls were naturally undeservedly isolated. With the train services, the means of transportation to the region will increase, and this place will become even more alive.”
Noting that the Cerrahpaşa station was also added, Turan said that this would facilitate access to health centers and the hospital area.
Turan said, “In short, this project will bring a new face to Istanbul, Fatih, in harmony with its history, culture and social fabric, and of course, will add value to our country’s tourism and economy. I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of our people, to our Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adil Karaismailoğlu, to our General Manager of Infrastructure Investments, to all the technical staff who contributed to the project,” he said. used his statements.
