Karnataka news: The body of Naveen, who was killed in Ukraine, reached India, Basavaraj said – PM made India realize the power


Bangalore : The body of MBBS student Naveen Shekharappa, who lost his life during a Russian attack in Kharkiv, Ukraine, reached Bengaluru on Monday. A team of family and officials arrived to receive the body of Naveen, who arrived at the Bangalore airport in the early hours. Shortly after, CM Basavaraj Bommai also arrived and paid tribute to Naveen.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai along with his cabinet colleagues arrived at the Bengaluru International Airport and paid tribute to Naveen. During this, while talking to reporters, Chief Minister Bommai said that the strength and valor of the country is known in times of crisis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown the strength of the nation in this hour of crisis by bringing back Naveen’s mortal remains.

Karnataka CM said that Naveen’s body has arrived today and we have made all the arrangements. Our officers posted at New Delhi, Ghaziabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru airports looked after the students who returned from Ukraine, he added. It was ensured that the students who had returned from Ukraine were safely brought home.

The Chief Minister said, ‘I am sad that we could not bring Naveen back alive. Our government stands with Naveen’s family. We have given compensation to the family. We will see what can be done for his younger brother.

At the airport, Health Minister K. Sudhakar, Haveri MP Shivkumar Udasi, MLA Arunkumar and Congress MLC Salim Ahmed were also present. Earlier, in his letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Bommai thanked the PM for bringing back Naveen’s body from Kharkiv.

Naveen of Karnataka’s Haveri district had died in Kharkiv on March 1 and his family was demanding the authorities to bring back his body. Naveen’s body was brought to India with the intervention of PM and CM.

Naveen’s father Shankarappa said that the body would be donated to the SS Hospital in Davanagere for medical studies after worshiping the body as per the Veera Shaiva tradition in the village. Naveen was a resident of Haveri district of Karnataka. On March 1, he was shot dead in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Naveen’s father said that my son wanted to achieve something in the field of medicine, but it could not happen. At least his body can be used by other medical students for studies, so we have decided to donate our son’s body for medical research.
