- Hardik did not have a special performance for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021
Former India captain Kapil Dev has asked if Hardik Pandya can be called an all-rounder when he doesn’t bowl that much. Pandya, an integral part of the Indian team in limited overs cricket, bowled in just two matches in the recent T20 World Cup. India had crashed out of the group stage of the tournament itself.
Pandya has also been criticized for not disclosing many issues related to his fitness. He did not find a place in the team for the T20 series against New Zealand. India won the series 3-0.
Kapil said at the Royal Calcutta Golf Course, ‘To be called an all-rounder, he has to do both. If he is not bowling, will he be called an all-rounder? He has recovered from injury, so let him bowl first.
India’s first World Cup winning captain said, ‘He is a very important batsman for India. For bowling, he has to play a lot of matches and perform well. Only then can we say.’
Kapil also said that Rahul Dravid will be more successful as a coach than he has as a cricketer. According to Kapil, ‘He is a good person and also a good cricketer. He will be even more successful as a coach than he has as a cricketer.
When asked about his favorite all-rounder, Kapil named Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. He said, ‘I just go to enjoy cricket these days. That is my job. I don’t see from your point of view.’
Kapil said about the favorite all-rounder, ‘I will take Ashwin’s name. He is awesome. Jadeja is also a great cricketer but his batting has got better then the bowling has got bad.
He praised Shreyas Iyer, who scored a century in the first Test, saying, “When young batsmen are scoring a century on debut, then understand that the game is going in the right direction.” We need cricketers like him.
