The “Support Committee for Journalists” (Arab organization) communicated this Saturday the figure of 24 Palestinian journalists detained in Israeli jails.
He added, in a statement reviewed by the Anadolu Agency, that the arrest of journalist Ayman Qawariq by the Israeli occupation on Friday evening at one of the doors of the al-Aqsa mosque, brought the total number to 24 journalists held in Israeli jails, including journalist Bushra al-Taweel.
The Committee said Israel “has extended the detention of journalist Qawariq until Sunday.”
The Committee called on humanitarian and human rights organizations to intervene to “stop the policy of detention and its extension against journalists detained in occupation prisons”.
He also called on these institutions to “put pressure on the occupation to release all journalists and activists, who are arrested on political grounds, without legal justification.”
And to continue: “we call on the UN Security Council to implement resolution 2222 on the protection of journalists and to hold Israel responsible for its violations against Palestinian media professionals”.
Israel holds around 4,850 Palestinians in 23 prisons and detention centers, including 41 prisoners, 225 children and 520 administrative detainees (without charge), according to institutions specializing in prisoners’ affairs.
