In the second presidential debate, presidential candidate Joe Biden has now attacked President Donald Trump for calling India ‘filthy’. Describing India as a ‘friend’ of America, he said that “Friends are not talked about in this way.” Biden said that he and Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris understand the importance of this partnership and will bring back respect in this relationship.
Joe Biden wrote on Twitter, “President Trump called India “filthy.” It’s not how you talk about friends—and it’s not how you solve global challenges like climate change. @KamalaHarris and I deeply value our partnership—and will put respect back at the center of our foreign policy.
With this, Biden also tweeted his article in India West Weekly. Biden wrote, “I always feel deeply connected to the Indian American community because of our duty to family and elders, and the values we share like service and hard work.”
Referring to his Vice President days, Biden wrote that the Obama-Biden years were the best between the two countries. The Biden-Harris administration will build on that development and do more than that. We can be natural allies.
“President Trump does not share our values. Therefore, today’s America does not feel like the America of our dreams.”
Biden also thanked the Indian Americans working on the frontline during the Corona virus pandemic.
Biden said that if he is elected president, “we will open markets and develop the middle class in both the US and India and face other international challenges such as climate change, global health, terrorism.”
Trump said India’s air was ‘filthy’
In the second presidential debate on Friday, President Donald Trump used the word ‘filthy’ for India, saying, “India, China and Russia don’t care about their air, whereas America does. China’s air is filthy. See How filthy India is, Russia doesn’t care about its air, but we do.”
Trump said Paris withdrew from the climate deal because it would have made America “a non-competitive country”.
